TreeHugger89 asked:

my really good friend is having a baby in October. I’ve already started buying her gifts now because I’m soo excited. I bought her a few outfits for the soon to come baby girl. I also got an old baby changing table that I’m going to restore for her. It has three drawers and a place to hang a blanker. I’m going to put things inside it for the baby shower, like extra gifts. But, I don;t know what. Moms and dads of newborns, what does she really need? What do you run out of or can never have too many of?

If you already gave the expectant mother a baby shower gift are you expected to bring another gift when you go to see the baby once it is born?
Or is once enough? Just wondering about the proper ettiquette.

My friend just had a baby and she and her husband already have everything they need–and they are financially well-off, so they won’t need diapers or formula. I would like to give them a great and lasting gift, not just a jumper or a blanket. I was thinking of something more along the lines of a savings bond or something else kind of unrelated to newborn babies, but I think it may be too impersonal. Again, I would like a gift that would last a long time. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
These are such great ideas! Thanks everyone!

I love buying baby gifts and going to baby showers! I have 2 kids and am not ready for a 3rd yet, but sometimes wish there was a new baby in the family or friends just so we could throw a baby shower.

I’ve never been to a baby shower, and my friend is having a baby in May. She said she had all of her “big” things, i.e. crib, playpen, etc.
I want to get her something she’ll love, she’s having a boy. Any suggestions? BTW, I’d prefer not to spend more than $200.00.
Thanks for your input. I forgot to add I don’t want to get her all clothes. 1 cute outfit, and some other stuff. :)

Appropriate Gift for a Baby Shower in NY?

NYer asked:

I’m attending a baby shower for a friend who I’ve known for several years. Her mother is throwing it at an Italian restaurant. She’s also registered at a toy store. I was wondering: What’s the protocol as far as gift-giving? What’s an appropriate “dollar” amount on a baby gift? Should I buy a gift or give money, or both? Would I need to give extra money for going to the restaurant? She’s one of those people who act snotty/ungrateful if she disapproves of something. That’s why I’m asking and wondering about the appropriate gift idea. I don’t want to spend too much, but I don’t want to look bad, either. Thanks in advance.

The son belongs to one of the women I work with and I dont think that she is really happy for them. I want to get something nice, affordable and something that the mother cant get pissed off about.
They are getting married on July 1st.
